The Eight Mathas (Ashta Mathas) /

Ordained by Sri Madhvacharyaru in the 13th century, the Ashta Mathas maintain unbroken custody, worship, and spiritual philosophy of Lord Sri Krishna.

The Paryaya Cycle & The Dwandva (Sister) Pairings /

To administer the daily worship of Lord Krishna seamlessly, Sri Madhvacharyaru paired the eight monasteries into four mutually supportive groups called Dwandva Mathas. In 1522 CE, the great saint Sri Vadiraja Teertharu modified the Paryaya term from 2 months to 2 full years.

During the grand Paryaya Mahotsava celebrated every even year in mid-January (Makara Sankranti week), the outgoing Swamiji hands over the historical Akshaya Patra and the puja keys to the incoming Peethadhipati at the auspicious early morning Brahma Muhurtha.
